Seekh Kebab Masala (Beef Kebab Curry)

A succulent kebab curry in which juicy seekh kebabs are cooked in a rich tomato-based sauce and finished off with coal smoke for an exotic bbq touch. This curry can be enjoyed with naan or your favourite rice.

Seekh Kebab Masala (Beef Kebab Curry)

One of our Eid table must-haves is this Seekh Kebab Masala and in my opinion it is best paired with my version of Afghani Kabuli Rice (see recipe). And not only on Eid, this aromatic curry packs a punch and can be served to elevate any meal. Especially that smoke of coal in the end makes this dish so heavenly delicious.

Seekh Kebab Masala (Beef Kebab Curry)

INGREDIENTS

FOR KABABS
  • 500g ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp gram flour (toasted)
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3/4 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 bread (soaked in 2 tbsp milk)
  • 3 tbsp onion (finely sliced)
  • 3-4 tbsp fresh coriander (chopped)
  • 2 green chilies (chopped)
FOR MASALA (CURRY)
  • 1/4-1/2 cup oil
  • 2 onion (sliced)
  • 3 tomatoes (sliced)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 piece of coal

DIRECTIONS

  1. Mix all the kebab ingredients in the mince and keep it in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  2. Then make small sized cylindrical shaped 'seekh kebabs' and put aside on a plate.
  3. Heat 2-3 tbsp oil in a pan and pan-fry the kebabs till they are 80% cooked and slightly brown from all sides. Take them out on a paper towel.
  4. For the curry, heat some more oil and add the onion. Wait till the onions are golden brown.
  5. Then add in your tomatoes and cook till they are mushy and oil seeps from the side.
  6. Add in your spices and mix.
  7. Now carefully put in your kebabs along with 1/2 cup water.
  8. Cover on low heat for 25-30 mins till the kebabs are fully cooked and the oil comes on top.
  9. Now heat a piece of coal, put some foil in the middle of your pan and place the coal on it. Drizzle some oil and immediately cover the pan. Keep covered for 10-15 mins.
  10. Garnish with ginger slices, chopped green chilies and fresh coriander.

NOTE

  • This recipe serves 3-4 people.
