A great party food or appetizer these Pizza Rolls are absolutely delicious. One is stuffed with loads of cheese and sausage and the other is filled with fresh basil, tomato slices and mozzarella.
Pizza Rolls are the perfect snack. They can be filled with a variety of things, are always very delicious and kids love it too. I have been wanting to do these appetizers for so long and finally gotten around to doing it now.
You can definitely make pizza dough from scratch but ready-made pizza dough or even puff pastry is very handy when it comes to these quick pizza rolls.
Whether you’re hosting a gathering or need a quick bite for a family night, these pinwheels bring convenience and flavor to the table.
So now to the fillings of these pinwheels. I slather the first one with pizza sauce and top with sliced sausage (or you can use pepperoni) and shredded cheese. A simple yet delicious take!
I wanted to do something fancy with the other one so decided to make it Caprese-style. The dough is seasoned with sea salt, black pepper and oregano then I add fresh basil, mozzarella and tomato slices.
The sausage pinwheels are very cheesy. I use two kinds, Gouda and Cheddar. The Caprese one tastes very fresh because of the basil. You can also drizzle some balsamic glaze after they are done baking.

- Roll tightly into a log, freeze for 15 minutes, slice, and bake at 200°C for 15-20 minutes until golden.
How To Make Caprese Pizza Rolls
- Roll out dough, brush with olive oil, and season with salt, pepper, oregano, and garlic powder.
- Add Mozzarella, basil leaves, and cherry tomatoes.
- Roll into a log, freeze, slice, and bake at 200°C for 15-20 minutes until cheese melts and golden.

Pair your pizza rolls with marinara sauce for dipping, or add a fresh green salad to balance out the indulgence. Perfect with a chilled mango mojito or strawberry basil lemonade!
Or enjoy these pizza rolls with my roasted tomato soup, which enhances the cheesy goodness, or a comforting bowl of creamy mushroom bisque for a hearty, satisfying combination.

Pizza Rolls (Two Ways)
Ingredients
- 1 pre-made pizza dough
- 1 egg whisked
Sausage Pizza Rolls
- 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
- 3-4 tablespoon pizza sauce
- ¼ cup Cheddar cheese
- ¼ cup Gouda cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
- 2 sausages sliced
Caprese Pizza Rolls
- 1-2 tablespoon olive oil
- pinch sea salt
- ½ teaspoon grounded black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ dried oregano
- ½ cup Mozzarella cheese
- 12-15 fresh basil leaves
- 8-10 cherry tomatoes sliced
Instructions
- Divide the pizza dough into two portions.
- Place a parchment paper on your working surface to avoid sticking. Then roll out each portion of pizza dough into a rectangle of around 22 x 28 cm (9 x 11 inches).
- Brush both doughs with olive oil to prevent sogginess.
- For the sausage rolls: slather pizza sauce all across leaving 3 cm (1.2") from the side to seal the edge in the end. Top with crumbled or grated Gouda and Cheddar cheese. Sprinkle some italian herbs. Then put the sausage slices.
- For the caprese rolls: sprinkle with sea salt, crushed black pepper, oregano and garlic powder. Then add the Mozzarella cheese, basil leaves and cherry tomatoes.
- From the longer side start folding the dough tightly like a log. Wrap it all and pinch the edges.
- Freeze for 15 mins while you preheat the oven. The freezing will make the cutting easier later.
- Then cut into around 2.5 cm (1") sized pinwheels. Each log will give you around 12 – 16 pinwheels.
- Place the rolls on a baking tray lined with parchment paper with spaces between them. Brush with the whisked egg to get golden exterior.
- Bake at 200°C (390°F) for 15-20 mins till the cheese melts and they get golden.
- Serve hot!
Notes
- You can bake each set of pinwheels separately if you don’t have enough space in your oven. Keep one log of dough in the freezer while you are baking the other.
