Crispy Homemade Popcorn Chicken

If you saw a sneak peek of this appetizer on my IG stories some time ago, then you are definitely waiting for this recipe. I would if I was at your place. Popcorn Chicken is so irresistible. It is a huge family favourite at my place.

The way I make popcorn chicken is to marinate the chicken pieces in a few spices, then I make a thick batter with flour and milk and add the chicken in it and finally those pieces are dipped in seasoned flour.

Crispy Homemade Popcorn Chicken

  • 300g boneless chicken (cut in bite-sized pieces)
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano
  • 3/4 tsp or to taste salt
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sriracha sauce
  • as required - milk
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp grounded black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp paprika powder

  1. Combine all the marinade ingredients and rub over the chicken pieces. Put aside to marinate for at least 30 mins.
  2. Mix the flour, cornflour, baking powder and sriracha together. Add enough milk to make a batter of medium consistency.
  3. Season the flour with salt, black pepper and paprika.
  4. Pour the batter into the chicken and mix well.
  5. Pick one chicken piece at a time and coat well with the flour mix. Keep pressing with your fingers while you do it, this will give the flaky finish.
  6. Heat oil for deep-frying. Fry the chicken on medium-heat in batches, don't crowd the pan/fryer. Take out when the chicken is golden-brown and cooked through.
  7. Enjoy hot with your favourite dip!
